SeaMonkey Upgrading on Windows

First you have to choose which installation of SeaMonkey you want. See the download section for different localizations, and install packages.

Note: This is an overly cautious upgrade procedure.

Safety precautions:

Clear your cache and history on every profile.
You should also back up your profile, just in case...

Next copy the folder \mozilla.org\SeaMonkey\plugins\ to a safe place.

Removing the Previous Version:

Removing the previous version of SeaMonkey isn't necessary, but I would recommend it. To remove it, go to the Windows Control Panel, and use Add/Remove Programs.

You may be asked if you want to completely remove the \mozilla.org\SeaMonkey\ folder. If you are prompted for this, choose "yes" to remove it.

Installation:

Reboot your computer; then run the installer.

When you run the installer, always select the custom install option.
Let's make that more clearer:

ALWAYS SELECT THE CUSTOM INSTALL OPTION :-)

By choosing the custom install option, you get to choose which components you want to install (MailNews, Spellchecker, DOM Inspector, etc.).

There may be many more preference options in the new version than there were in your previous version, so your profile's preferences file will not have documented those settings. This will cause SeaMonkey to use the default settings, so you'll experience some display "weirdness" at first. I recommend you take a stroll through Edit -> Preferences to explore the new options and set them to your "preference". :-D

You can now go the \plugins\ folder, which you copied earlier. Copy all the files within it to your new \plugins\ folder. If you are asked whether or not to replace an existing file, select "no". (That's important.)
